SEOUL — The captain of a ferry that sank earlier this year, leaving more than 300 people — mostly schoolchildren — dead and shocking South Korea, was given a 36-year prison sentence Tuesday for negligence and abandoning his passengers.

Another poor example of a government failing to hand down the proper punishment for people who caused death to hundreds of students by the Captain and his crew of this South Korean ferry that sunk earlier this year.
