I am Donald Patnaude from Chicago U.S.A. After having owned and operated a promotional advertisement business successfully for 10-years, I felt I needed a little change. So I did quite a bit of travelling in search of that change. So I decided to move Southwest of Chicago. So I moved 8,570 Miles (13,792 Kilometers) Southwest to Bangkok, Thailand. I went from being in the promotional advertisement business to becoming an English teacher.
I have worked 4-years in three Thai government high schools, 3-years in private language centers and I have taught English to more than 6,400 people (mostly teenagers) ages 3-60 years old. I have also provided consultation services on a wide variety of English Language topics to the Thai government schools, private sector and indiviuals. I accompolished all of this since December 2001.
Now my latest mission is to help the poorest children and teenagers receive FREE Online & Interactive English learning programs. These children will also be able to use FREE Computers and Hi-speed Internet service at the local Internet Cafe we will setup in these poor communities where families earn less than $4,000.00 USD. a year!!!
These students will have to pay for these programs by volunteering to help make their village/community a better place for everyone.
Our first step is to select five of the poorest villages (one in each of the five different regions) in Thailand. Then we will setup and open the FREE Internet Cafes. Total cost $50,000.00 including all computer equipment, Hi-speed Internet Access and rent, electric and water for 1-year.
The second step is to select 200 young learners (no more than one from any single family) ages 5-12 who will receive the ClickN Kids Reading Phonics Program and the Spelling Program. These programs will never expire therefore once a student has completed all 100 lessons successfully, the user then can be deleted and a new user added at no additional cost. Total cost $22,000.00 USD.
The last step is to select 200 teenagers (no more than one from any single family) to receive a 1-year subscription to the Premium English-Attack! Program. Total cost $19,200.00 USD.
There are also some Misc. expenses such as training for teaching students on how to become volunteers etc. Total cost 7,800.00 USD.
Everyone has the chance to help 200 teenagers and 200 young learners (which will be more because users will be deleted once the programs are completed and NEW users added at no additional cost) who come from families earning less than $4,000.00 USD. a year!!!
I have wanted to do this for a long time. Actually I had this idea since 2005 when one of my 14-year old students had to help his parents deliver ice to some shops every morning before going to school. My former student and one of his friends were on a motorbike and it happened. A car hit them. 4:45A.M. The friend of my former student was killed and my student had about half of his brain removed during surgery because it was crushed. I have searched for the past 7-years for a way to make a difference in peoples lives. I have long ago decided that it would be students from poor families who I want to help but never could find the way. If we come up short then we will help as many students as possible. If we receive more than $99,000.00 USD. then we will help more than the 400 we had planned. I will keep on trying until I succeed. Thank you for reading this story.
